Western Tibet

The extensive area of western Tibet (Ngari region) is bordered to the east by Nagchhu area. To the south are India and Nepal and to the west, Kashmir. Xingjian, the autonomous region of Uighur people of China (Chinese Turkistan) lies to the north. Ngari extends 750 km from east to west, and covers approximately a quarter of the Tibet autonomous region. It is now devided in to 7 counties with a population of about 50,000, and its capital is Shinquanhe.

Holy Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarovar
Few Mountain reval Holy Mt. Kailash and lake Manasarovar for its mystique. It is considered to be the "center of the universe" by Hindus, Buddhist, Jain and Bonpo and its flanks give birth to four great Asian rivars the Indus, Brahmaputra, Ganges and Satlej. Accordingly its near legendary reputation draws pilgrims from throughout Asia to walk the sacred path arround the earthly incarnation of the mythical Mount Meru and Lake Manasarovar. Once pilgrimage journey made to this holy site assures the free from the sins of a lifetime.

 

Guge Kingdom & Lost city of Tsaprang
Situated in Tsada country of Ngari region, Guge Kingdom was originally built in 10th century. According to historical records some sixteen hereditary kings had dorminated this Kingdom. The extentive Guge kingdom ruins are found on a hillside about 300 meters in height. The ruins cover an area of 180000 squire meters, and includes more than 300 meters chapels, 300 caves, 3 stups each about 10 meters in height and five magnificent temples and palaces. In the temples many lively murals and clay sculptures can be still seen. Other popular religious site are Tirthapuri & Gurugyam Monastery.
